About Karen:

Karen Young is an experienced clinical supervisor & person-centred counsellor/psychotherapist based in the Highlands. Karen works with children, adults and families. Karen works with a wide range of mental health issues such as; trauma, emotional distress, anxiety, depression, grief and loss, stress management, managing difficult emotions such as anger or low self-esteem. 

With over 30 years of dedicated experience supporting children and families, Karen offers compassionate, person-centred counselling and psychotherapy, as well as expert clinical supervision. 

Karen’s approach to therapy and client work:

Karen’s work is grounded in the person-centred model, which places the individual at the heart of the therapeutic process. Karen’s calm, respectful approach is grounded in empathy and genuine regard for each individual’s unique strengths and needs. Karen believes that everyone has the innate capacity for growth and self-healing when provided with a safe, non-judgmental environment.

Karen draws on a range of approaches to meet each individual's needs and adapts her work in a flexible, responsive way.

Karen has a wealth of experience working with children, adolescents, and families who are managing a range of emotional and psychological challenges. Her calm, respectful manner and deep understanding of child development create a safe space where children and young people feel listened to and supported; helping them understand their experiences, develop self-awareness, and build the confidence to move forward.

Whether working one-to-one or in partnership with families, Karen’s goal is to support meaningful change in a way that is compassionate, collaborative, and focused on each person’s strengths.

Karen’s qualifications and professional background:

Karen is a qualified therapist with a Diploma in Counselling Children & Young People, an Advanced Certificate in Clinical Supervision, and a specialist Certificate in Working Therapeutically with Autistic Clients. She is also a trained mindfulness teacher and integrates evidence-informed practices to support emotional regulation and wellbeing.

Karen has extensive experience leading therapeutic groups and delivering parenting programmes such as Incredible Years, Roots of Empathy, and the Solihull Approach. These programmes offer parents and carers practical tools and emotional insight, helping to strengthen family relationships and build resilience at home.

Karen is a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

Session fees with Karen:

Karen charges £95 for a 55-minute session.
